Saw this pop up and it opened a deep deep memory in my head of reading this book in elementary school from the library

This is the story of a girl who discovers she's half-mermaid. I first encountered it years ago when it was given to a friend who does NOT like fantasy novels of ANY sort, where I read the first few chapters and I'm not sure what happened to the book after that.

The other day, I borrowed it through Overdrive, and proceeded to read the whole thing in a few hours. It wasn't bad. Held my interest, but I did skim at points. It's not my favorite mermaid interpretation that I've ever read, but it had intriguing concepts and I don't regret reading it.

My biggest annoyances have been
1. Emily treads all over my literary pet peeve, but given her unique situation in the book, I'm willing to forgive her.
2. Neptune ... loves capslock.
3. I only wanted to read this first book, but the file I got through Overdrive had the whole series.

This is one of Tessa's favorite books and I can see why she likes it so much, especially since she has always loved meermaids. This is a fun little drama appropriate for any child.

9-yo-Grace gives this one 4 stars. She wasn't sure she wanted to keep reading after the first chapter, but by chapter 2 she was hooked. She wants to read the other books!
