I definitely agree with other reviewers that this book is very reminiscent of shows like Parenthood and This is Us. Fortunately, those are two of my favorite shows, so this book was right up my alley!
This book tells the story of the Sorenson family, Marilyn and David, and their four daughters. They are as dysfunctional as any other normal family, with each of their individual issues and struggles, along with their evolving relationships with each other.
The story also jumps back to when Marilyn and David first met, the birth of each of their daughters, and the difficulties of navigating parenthood. The honesty and raw emotion that comes along with raising little people was refreshing, and the way Lombardo successfully articulated the joy and upheaval that kids bring to life was impressive.
Although the book is on the long side, it doesn't seem like there are extraneous details, and Lombardo is really able to capture the nuances of each person's specific experiences. I was able to relate to many of the characters in the book, and the family members really started to grow on me. I became invested in their story, and I was in it for the long haul.
