I don't know what it is, but so far, this series is full of doormat women and men that aren't rom com worthy. Had this been a dark romance, and not a cute fluffy romance, it could have worked better. At first, Evie was a decent character, but as the story went on, I got fed up with her. She should have just cut her family off. They were downright despicable. They acted like her being born and adopted was her fault. It disgusted me. Then Anderson is even worse than Hudson! He was so crass and gross. Not at all attractive. The whole insurance fraud plot line and mafia boss plot didn't work for the story. If this was shorter with better character development, I think I would have loved this. The authors writing is great just not in this context and story.
