Pointing to a chair, table, and pile of books, the old man now left the room; and when I sat down to read I saw that the books were hoary and mouldy, and that they included old Morryster’s wild Marvells of Science, the terrible Saducismus Triumphatus of Joseph Glanvill, published in 1681, the shocking Daemonolatreia of Remigius, printed in 1595 at Lyons, and worst of all, the unmentionable Necronomicon of the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred, in Olaus Wormius’ forbidden Latin translation; a book which I had never seen, but of which I had heard monstrous things whispered.
I decided to give these audiobook versions of [a:H.P. Lovecraft|9494|H.P. Lovecraft|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1299165714p2/9494.jpg]'s short stories another chance, having been left disappointed by [b:The Other Gods|55595424|The Other Gods|H.P. Lovecraft|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1610271250l/55595424._SX50_.jpg|19185282].
Here the narrator delivers with more passion and the story itself is a lot more interesting. We have mention of the Necronomicon, of underground occult rituals and of the protagonists descent into madness, which seems to often happen in Lovecraft stories.
I enjoyed this one, 4 stars.

4✨ - recommend
Their forefathers commanded their sons to take part in an ancient festival, connected to the Yuletide, to ensure the "memory of primal secrets are not forgotten". So, this man goes to his ancestorial town, a place that he had never visited, only dreamed of.
A good H. P. Lovecraft short story, in my opinion. The description was very spot on and I could easily relate to some of the characters eerie and uncomfortable feelings/vibes.
I would recommend if you are looking for a quick read, that is good - in my opinion.
