I was a little disappointed with this book. I'm a big Dear Dumb Diary fan (and will often turn to them when I need a quick laugh), but this one fell flat of my expectations. I admit that I had high hopes, especially considering how much I loved the last one, but even without my high expectations it still wasn't very good. There wasn't much of a plot (not that these books have really involved plots anyway) and the whole book felt kind of forced, like it was killing Jim Benton to write another DDD. Isabella took a backseat in this one, too, which was a little sad, since she does usually bring a special something to the stories :) I was a little thrown, too, by Benton's use of the word "crap" pretty early on. Now, everyone who knows me knows I swear like a sailor, so I need to clarify here and say that it was the word that bugged me, it was that he used it at all. These books are really clean (well, aside from the potty humor, but you know what I mean -- no swearing) and I was shocked that not only did he use the word but that his editor didn't say anything about it. Weird.

So while I did laugh out loud when I read the whole hair bit, overall this book a bit of a letdown. Definitely not as funny as [b:Can Adults Become Human|369005|Can Adults Become Human (Dear Dumb Diary #5)|Jim Benton|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1174182631s/369005.jpg|358987] and [b:Never Underestimate Your Dumbness|2563902|Never Underestimate Your Dumbness (Dear Dumb Diary #7)|Jim Benton|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51kenAIZItL._SL75_.jpg|2572401], and maybe even less funny than [b:The Problem with Here Is That It's Where I'm From|948297|The Problem with Here Is That It's Where I'm From (Dear Dumb Diary, No. 6)|Jim Benton|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1179714740s/948297.jpg|933222] (which is saying a lot). Oh, well. Guess I'll live . . .

This book was good. Jim Benton does a good job, thinking of the mind of a middle school girl.

My 11-year-old said this book was very funny, but compared to Harry Potter she gave it a 3 out of 5. :)

All the Dear Dumb Diary books are really good for people from non-English-speaking countries learning the language. On the other hand I would say about it the same thing I said about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid - it's inappropriate for children under the age of eight because it teaches them that school is something really wrong and boring and some people are just bad - it's never like that!
