This is one of the most feel good books I’ve ever read! I feel like my bleeding heart just felt for the main character Linus throughout the entire story! But the world building was so good that I could really imagine what the author wrote! Plus it’s a lil gay and that made my heart happy! Also this story had a lot of deep underlying meanings and I think everyone should read this book!

Quick re-read for a book club, it was as good as the first read! I enjoyed the build up and storytelling immensely!

I really enjoyed this book! It uses mythical beings to teach readers about prejudice and embracing our differences. An easy, enjoyable read with a powerful message to challenge prejudice and find inner strength, it is full of love and kindness, drawing meaningful parallels to current issues. It encourages us not to judge by appearances and to fight for those we love. A must-read!

Linus Baker has a good, stable government job. For seventeen years he has been a case worker with the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. He has always acted precisely in the best interests of the magical youth he monitors by following the Rules and Regulations book provided by his employers.

But when he is given a Level Four classified assignment at the Marsyas Island Orphanage, everything he knows is thrown into question, not least by the six year old son of Satan himself. And then there is the oddly fiery caretaker, Arthur.

I loved this book. The setup is practically an homage to Roald Dahl, in the very best way, and there is a sweet queer love story you root for all the way happening between two lonely souls. Marred only by a series of overly declamatory speeches toward the end.

Another re-read: I love this book, and all the characters. But although I love Arthur and Linus, the romance between them is just not convincing to me. It’s still a fun read, highly recommended.
