One of the most interesting portrayals of immigrant child guilt, filial piety, and intergenerational trauma. This book is one that really needed to be written, and I'm surprised it hasn't been done before. Don't let the cover fool you, the book is filled with nuanced conversations and the protagonist is one you can really root for.

I really enjoyed this book! I did find it really difficult to read for parts because Mei is struggling so much about what her parents want. And her parents... it was so challenging and frustrating at times to read. But I know this is something that so many young people experience, so it's great to see it reflected in YA!
I really liked Mei. I felt so akin to her and her germaphobia. I struggle with germs and ALWAYS have hand sanitizer with me. I felt really seen with her character! Medical stuff freaks me out, too - haha. And Darren and Nic were so great!! I loved their characters. And of course Xing and Esther.

I loved how realistic but hopeful and happy the ending was. It was a HEA in a realistic way and it made me smile.
