I rarely write reviews, but this book was so perfect to me that I felt the need to.

The imagery in this book is exquisite. As a visual person often limited by the mental nature of books, but then hampered by the over enthusiastic prose of descriptive authors, this book accomplished a beautiful balance between glowing, heart warming descriptions of magic and the world of Polnya, and the riveting action that drives the story forward. I never felt dragged down by the writing, only lifted up and propelled forward, given time to breathe and fall in love with the characters, but also never left to linger.

I loved that the friendship between two women was celebrated and explored more than the romance. I loved that the romance, while passionate and thrilling and lovely, played second fiddle to the rest of the story. I loved that the main character was a powerful woman who made mistakes and muddled her way through and stayed true to her nature despite pressure to do otherwise. I loved that her eventual love interest learned to accept her for who she was rather than forcing her to become like him. I loved how their magic worked together and complemented each other's, despite being so different. I loved how every character had a good and a bad side and that those sides bled together and overlapped, that there was no perfectly right answer and that even the happy ending was bittersweet and very real.

I cannot recommend this book enough. I am so pleased I chose to buy it and not borrow or rent, because I know I'll be reading it over and over.

I thought this was a fantasy romance, but nope I was so wrong. The plot was okayish. The characters felt one dimensional.
Some story arcs felt unfinished.
