Another one of those cases where mine and Goodreads rating systems clash. While I found this book to only be ok, I do not think it deserves a 2 star rating. Oh well, I'll stick with my own for now. Who knows, maybe the GR rating system will start feeling better at a later date, or I'll stick with being a rebel forever. Mwahahaha!

*Clears throat*
Anyway. To the book.
I picked this story up for free without knowing much about it other than it being a short steampunk story with Asian elements. In that regard, it was ok, despite the steampunk not being all that steampunky-ish. I'm sad to say that many people think that as long as you throw some metal/robot things into the past, that's steampunk, but that's not the case. It was the case in this story. Then again, how much can you fit in 21 pages?

So, yeah. Setting was ok. I liked that it was set in China.
I wasn't that big a fan of the mix of POV, even if I did like Fa Xuis (?) POV. I always find it interesting seeing the world through ''diverse'' eyes. In this case, a Chinese man during the ''western invasion'' of China.
I also liked the twist at the end in the church.

I don't know what it was, but something about the writing really didn't work for me. I can't put my finger on it, for it wasn't badly written, it just really didn't do it for me, so I guess it was the authors voice I had trouble with.
That said, I'm not sad I read this book. It was ok, after all.
