I really enjoyed this and wish it was longer instead of a novella because I wanted more. It was beautifully atmospheric and felt like a Hozier song in book form. The angst was off the charts and delicious. I felt so much for these characters. There were some incredibly sweet moments with the touch-starved FMC and with the main characters taking turns holding each other for comfort.

It was refreshing to see a romance where the woman is the centuries-old immortal being and the man is mortal instead of the other way around like it usually is. I also appreciate that there was some representation of Ulcerative Colitis, which is pretty much unheard of in romance novels.

The only issues I had with this book were very minor and mostly related to it being a novella. I wanted more character development and relationship development. I'm also not usually the biggest fan of instalove and instalust but I understand this was a fated mates situation and it didn't bother me much in this story.

“If Icarus could see me now, would he warn me away, tell me to find a man who didn’t have Death nipping at his heels? Or would he beckon me closer to my doom?”

I saw some lovely fanart for this story and went into it pretty blind. What a fantastic short story!
This is sweet, heartfelt, sexy and mysterious with a bit of sinister dread that keeps your turning the pages.  All mixed with Irish folklore.

Have I mentioned how much I love perfectly written novellas?

Éireann is a Bean-Sídhe, she once made a deal with death and has been his herald now for hundreds of years. The story starts when she meets the next person who’s death she has witnessed, Elin. However, death has also shown her a glimpse of the life they could live together. Fighting against fate, Eireann is determined to do everything in her power to help Elin cheat death.

This is beautiful writing and a well polished story. Eireann is strong, independent, and kind. She doesn’t fit the cookie cutter standard of 1800’s ladies, having seen so much, and I’m all for it.

Elin is kind, strong but vulnerable with her. I loved that he could accept care from her when struggling. He was also very hot during sexy times.

Read this story! It was so very good. I really want to check out more by this author now.
