this book sets out to do a lot of things at once and after getting over the initial shock of that i did enjoy it. i did feel myself getting lost in the names and the histories sometimes but couldnt help thinking that was sort of purposeful, considering the frequent use of first person plural.

clearly a LOT of research had gone into this book and i really appreciated that. im not sure if i loved or hated that virginia woolf was a character in this. but i did enjoy the deep dive into lesbian lives and desires and imaginations whether they were fictional or not

This was really impressive and inspiring but I am not smart enough to fully appreciate it.

You can tell there’s a huge research behind this book. I just found it too academic (I think many people would enjoy this).

I really wanted to like this, since I think the concept is wonderful in theory and there is some gorgeous prose. But it's just so boring. I couldn't keep track of the characters and their various occupations, and the novel didn't really spend enough time with them for it to matter anyways. I feel like it was impossible to form a connection to any of the characters in the novel. I think this is the unfortunately reality of the whole conceit of the novel, where all of these women are supposed to be an extension of women as a collective, so in the end they don't feel like individuals. Just kind of a dull read in the end.

Really wanted to like this but it was dry and hard to engage with.

okay so i liked this concept and i liked the story but didn’t really connect with the execution. i found myself just getting a bit lost with the story or just what was going on in general. but i did enjoy it overall!!!
