DNF. disjointed, dull. Could have been so interesting as it’s a great idea. Unfortunately, it’s very poorly executed.

A must read for anyone who wants to learn about the writers, poets, actresses, painters and other sapphic women from a century ago and how their lives intertwined in their own fight for self-determination.
(My 4.75 instead of 5 is mostly because it was hard for me to follow. The non-linear timeline and the diversity in the people followed was great, but boy I've got some homework to do aha.)

thought the general concept was interesting but because of the many time jumps and amount of characters that changed all the time i sadly didn‘t really care for them

I do appreciate the concept and the themes that the author chose to explore but the book is a bit too experimental for my personal taste.
I really struggled with the structure, it's so fragmented that trying to put together all the pieces is an herculean task that, in the end, I think I mostly failed. We are introduced to a whirlwind of characters (mostly unfamiliar to me) that are the narrative focus intermittently but, by the time they were mentioned again later on, I barely had any memory of who they were and what we had been told about them.

There were passages of prose that I found really good and effective but, overall, the writing style was too literary and scholarly, to the point that, at times, the narrative lost some of its emotional impact and turned into a dry academic text. Also, whenever the author mentioned ancient Greek grammar I was plagued by flashbacks of high school trauma, and that wasn't much fun.

The premise sounded like something that I could quite like, but the execution itself left me a bit underwhelmed and a lot confused.

I think I’ve gotten what I need out of this. I was very drawn to the concept, but this quickly became repetitive and was generally erudite.
