Everyone should read this book! Very informative and reflective - I loved the creative use of form here and the use of "we" in the narrative. Filled with female rage and sappho fragments, it's a beautiful telling of the forgotten women in history, with a particular focus on Italy and Europe.

i'm very bumped to dnf this one, bc i think the concept is really cool, and i really enjoy learning more about queer female artist, but the format was not for me. i found it really difficult to follow where it was going, i would have prefer longer narration, and really digging into the characters, instead of feeling like i'm reading a very poetic wikipedia article. nonetheless, it's so heartwarming to know that there's more of us out there, that we've always existed, that we are not only part of the culture, but also the culture itself. maybe i'll return to this when i'm less in a reading slump :)

There were some really great moments- some lines and threads sang beautifully and connected meaningfully. On the whole, though, I felt too distant from the many, many characters- the figures I’m not familiar with didn’t shine through very distinctly. Poetic and intricate, but I’d rather read Orlando than read about Orlando.
A note- I listened to the audiobook; I think I would have connected more with the print book!

format was really difficult to engage with. Might have to come back to in a few years.

There were some fabulous lines that I just had to mark. Overall though, it went a bit over my head. Maybe I just don’t know the history she was referencing well enough.
