“You want to know something true? Something real? I love you. I’m in love with you. I have been since the night the snow fell in your hair and you kissed me for the first time. I’m grateful my life is tied to yours because it means I won’t have to face a day without you in it. My heart only beats as long as yours does, and when you die, I’ll meet Malek at your side. It’s a damned good thing that you love me, too, because you’re stuck with me in this life and every other that could possibly follow.”
I don’t think my review would do this book justice so I’ll leave this swoon worthy quote here!

SERIOUSLYYYYYY my jaw is on the floor. Took me way too long to finish this lol
it was fun to keep reading the story, but i didnt immediately want to pick up the 3rd the way i wanted to read the 2nd after finishing the first. good thing, since the 3rd not out yet. i would have liked a bit more explanation at the end of the way the sage and xaden had a connection/knew each other. i'm also not totally clear on why xaden needed to draw power from the ground aka become venin at the end, was it to kill the sage? did he def kill him? sgaeyl, xadens dragon was quite strong so again, not sure why that was needed. the late reveal that andarna was some kinda 7th, previously unknown color/type of dragon was kinda hinted at when she kept noting that her scales seemed diff colors. again, why did this matter? could see myself reading the 3rd at some pt though.
Varnish can literally go fucking die in a hole. Such good character development, and the twists are crazy once again!

It’s a worthy second book to the fourth wing and absolutely takes the story ahead at many different arcs and levels.
It is engaging and many a times one has edge of the seat feeling. Maybe a little too many times but the story keeps you engrossed and you keep going back to the book.
The characters are strong and have been developed further to make them interesting. Also each character has share or black and white and author makes you like and hate them at various points in the story. That is where you also see that choices these characters make - help them grow and packs a punch in the story.
The book is a tad too long and at times i felt some episodes while very interesting could have been sacrificed but then i have not read the next one so can’t be sure of this. Maybe they have a connect in the next one.
Go read it . And yes i am going for the next one in next couple if weeks

I did like this book, the plot was more interesting than fourth wing, as I enjoyed the development of other characters in this book. There was still a number of interactions between Violet and Xaden which had me giggling and swinging my feet and I love, love, love the dragons.
The biggest issue I had with this book though? It was too flipping long. I feel like with some editing and concessions this book could’ve easy been about 500-600 pages and still covered everything. The bit in the middle especially seemed to drag forever and was a bit of a slog to get through, in my opinion.
That being said, I did enjoy this book and look forward to reading the third book, but apparently this is meant to be a 5 book series and I’m confused about how much Yarros can drag this plot line before we’re just reading the same story over and over.
