Really good book. Amazing story of perseverance in the face of adversity and the differences in the ways people dealt with that adversity and what impact that had on their outcomes.

I was so excited to read this book, as I've been on a survival kick recently. This book is 90% description of killing seals (old seals, baby seals, pregnant seals, injured seals, etc) in graphic detail. Literally page after page after page of clubbing, bashing, stabbing, shooting, and stabbing in every detail you can imagine. I'm not even troubled as an animal lover...I'm just disappointed because so little of the story is about the men's actual survival. I kept reading, hoping that anything else would be discussed....but nope, just more detailed seal killing. No personal development or back story of the men stranded, no explanation of the dynamics between the men save for a few pages of them fighting over seal killing (seriously), and no description of their emotions besides one mention of a man crying over his unintentionally abandoned son and wife. If you want a detailed story of survival, skip this one and read a brief Wiki article about it if you're curious. If you want a DETAILED description of the proper way to club seal pups to death, by all means happy reading!
