Some tropes (I.e. miscommunication) started getting a bit repetitive but overall I really enjoyed the book. The characters are complex and I definitely get attached. I rushed through some sections to make sure my favourite characters survive. Shocking twists throughout meant I was on tenterhooks until I finished it (and then I was screaming/crying at the ending). I liked the humour throughout the book but especially laughed out loud (literally) from Tairn and Andarna.

Omg!!

Couldn’t put it down, and was quite legitimately speechless at the end.

Finishing this book felt like stumbling across the finish line of a grueling endurance trial: exhausted, frustrated, and a little relieved. Iron Flame gave me a measure of high stakes, new threats, and some deeply emotional moments, but somewhere along the way, the pacing buckled under its own weight.

What felt sharp in Fourth Wing too often dragged here, with endless circles of miscommunication, delayed reveals, and stretches that read more like filler than fire. The romance smolders but gets tangled in the same fight on repeat. And while there are glimpses of brilliance - scenes that gut-punch, friendships that still shine - the slow drag diluted the impact.

What started as a 4-star read got demoted by my boredom around the 70% mark. Not to mention my frustration at having to revisit more than a few sentences to make sense of them. Between bloated pacing, recycled arguments, and prose that often felt unedited, Violet deserved better. Honestly, so did we.
