Anfangs fand ich die Erzählung interessant aber etwas zerstreut(?), sprich viele einzelne Geschichten und ich hatte noch wenig überblick, wo wirklich die Haupthandlung sein würde. Aber mit der Zeit, als sich die Freundschaft zwischen den beiden Frauen intensivierte, zog es mich total mit, ich fand die Behandlung der Themen Tod, Krankheit, aber auch Freundschaft, Nähe und Abschied, total eindrucksvoll und roh. Auch die Passagen über die Unausdrückbarkeit einiger Ereignisse, die Limitierungen von Sprache - wow. Wie einzelne Gedankengänge aus Philosophie, Literatur, Religion eingebettet wurden war ebenso sehr flüssig. Schöne Leseerfahrung insgesamt. 

Die Endpassagen übrigens in Zusammenhang mit den vorigen Seiten so atemberaubend geschrieben, das wollt ich nochmal herausheben.

I think it's really lovely how Sigrid Nunez is able to craft a story around death that doesn't feel so heavy but also does not trivialize the confusing and overwhelming feelings that often come with the subject matter. I do not usually reread books but I could see myself coming back to this one.
