The series doesn't wow me, but I so desperately want to like it. Partially could be because I still haven't watched Jessica Jones. (Hey, who has the time!) Something just doesn't strike me as "Yes, this is the Kate Bishop I love" while there's nothing inherently wrong about her character. I dunno, guys.

But lol at Jessica Jones being all big sister at the end. Doesn't she know Kate's a good shot?

It has to be said that I know even less about Jessica Jones than I do about Kate Bishop, so I'm sure there's a lot that's passing me by here. I did enjoy seeing a mentor relationship between two women, though, which my admittedly superficial experience of superhero narratives has not really come across before.

I did not enjoy Brad. (Does anyone? I take it he's meant to be obnoxious.) Apparently there's back story there but if it involves him, and the already tedious lost Dad storyline, I do not care. On the plus side, however, there is a dragon. But if that dragon doesn't turn out to be who/what I think it is, I'll eat my hat. Given that I'm reading these comics from the first collected edition, of the first six issues, my suspicion is that this is the first of a two-comic story, so the ending seems like it's going to be obvious enough to wrap up quickly. Bonus points if Brad gets eaten.

The most fun. Love the way this Kate is written and really loved the way she contrasts with Jessica. Nice to see he latter doing something a little silly as well.

The Best of: Hawkeye #5

1. Kate's Sunset Boulevard reference. It's a small thing, but I loved it. Also, if you have not seen Sunset Boulevard, stop reading my review and go do that. I'll wait.

2. Joint Hawkeye/Jessica Jones interrogation with Brad the asshole as a special guest. This is the team-up I never knew I needed. Brad, you should be terrified right now.

3. Jessica Jones and Kate Bishop doing anything together is apparently perfect? Interrogations, stakeouts, detective work... I'm sorry, Clint, but I think Kate has a new favorite mentor (and so do I know).

4. Kate taking notes on Jessica's tips. This tip, or rather lack of a tip, is my favorite.

"Uh, I feel like there's a Jessica Jones tip somewhere in here about Hollywood and using looks and fame and skintight costume to your advantage or something, buuuuut I'm just gonna skip it."

5. "I feel like America would enjoy this pun about me... and closets."

Yes, she would. Can we bring America for a cameo here somehow? Best friends can have their series crossover.

6. Kate and Jessica's heart to heart. I love seeing Kate be more vulnerable and unsure, and Jessica Jones is the mentor we all actually want.

"Ever consider you're doing it wrong?" "Only every day." "Good." "What?" "No, I... That cam out wrong. I just meant that I feel like I'm doing it wrong all the time... So that must mean I'm doing it right... Right?" "There is no right or wrong with this in my experience."

7. Kate opening up about her dad a little bit and her motivations behind becoming a PI, and Jessica just offering support and being my favorite mentor ever.

8. I did not see that coming. Who is the dragon? Is the girl the dragon? I am very confused, but it's a confused I enjoy because I can't predict the outcome,

9. Grumpy Jessica Jones is the best Jessica Jones. I honestly cannot pick a favorite snarky line here because they are all beautiful.

10. This entire book (and really series) is a gem. Highly recommended!
