I loved this! I listened to it rather than read. A perfect mix of art, mystery, friendship, animals, and love wrapped up in a suspenseful story. The end of the audiobook discusses the parallels to the real story.

O'Farrell's writing is always good; that said, although this was a good read, it did not quite live up to my expectations after how much I liked Hamnet. And there was something very disturbing about the ending.

Bit of a slow start but a really good story once it got going

I enjoyed this, although it didn't really grab me quite as much as some of the other books I've read recently.

Beautifully-written, tragic tale of a young woman. Interesting use of the historical tradition of marriage portraits alongside themes of ownership, abuse and perception of women and their bodies.
