I really enjoy Mhairi McFarlane's work, they are all so compulsively readable.
One thing I'll say is if breakdowns of long term relationships are triggering to you, the first half if the book will be tough. The split between Laurie and Dan is raw and visceral.

I wish this book was around a year ago. “Epically long term relationship ending and later questioning everything you ever knew or understood about your partner because their moral compass is completely absent and probably always was” is not a common plot line.
This is a Brit romcom but it’s written well and is so witty. The characters are likeable and the story is heartwarming despite the angsty bits in the beginning. It briefly touches on experiences as a black minority. My only point of frustration was the typical miscommunication between the characters which creates unnecessary drama. Look past it though. This book is a romance, more focused on the woman finding herself. It’s predictable, but writing as a nurse during a global pandemic, more of this please!

I liked it, I liked the character and felt the people I was supposed to be rooting for were easy to relate to.

This was my first time reading Mhairi McFarlane, and while it leans more towards women's fiction than romance, I have a feeling that going forward, her books will be my go-to when I need a good cry.
