The Book of Ho'oponopono by Luc Bodin et. al. is a free .pdf galley copy of a book from Inner Traditions that I read in late February. Being a avid reader of native Hawaiian culture and history, I knew that I should give this therapeutic, seemingly gorgeous book a try.

At first, the concept and method of this book - using mantras that involve love, forgiveness, and gratitude to loosen feelings of stress or unpleasantness - seemed incredibly simple, before realizing that this book had multiple authors. From there (as in after the mantra of Ho'oponopono was introduced), the therapy became boggled in interpretation for different faith centres, analysis of psychological practices, and small attempts at the meaning of life. Ultimately, it's 150 pages too long and not all too much is focused onto Hawaiian therapies.

This is a great book about a very powerful mantra and practice: "I'm sorry; please forgive me; I love you; thank you!" The book contains contributions from several writers and explains the many applications of the practice/mantra.

I requested and read this book after a conversation with a colleague made me curious about the practice. The content inspired a wide range of emotion for me, from relief to anger. For those raised in Christian faith teachings, some of the concepts are likely to elicit some uncomfortable feelings.

While I liked the idea that a set of four phrases ("I'm sorry. Forgive Me. Thank you. I love you") effecting social and emotional change, I struggled to embrace the idea that everything that has ever happened or will happen in my life was by virtue of my inviting it in. n

This is a book that is likely to require reading more than once to fully form an accurate opinion.

This book was received as an ARC through NetGalley in return for a fair and honest review.
hopeful informative inspiring medium-paced

It’s a light read. Quite an elaboration for this one phrase: I’m sorry. Forgive me. Thank you. I love you.

Author attempted to dwell on law of attraction here and there, but with no depth. Will recommend for beginners (those into law of attraction kinda thingy). For intermediate and advanced levels; I suppose it’s a preface kinda book.

Happy reading.
