This was such an important story.

It was beautifully written, and I hadn't heard much about this side of the war. I thought it was a very interesting, emotional and important read. The characters felt real and I cared for them. My only complaint would be the ending, which felt very abrupt and unfinished. I would have preferred it if it was slightly longer.

I don't even have words to express how good this book was. It was so intense, and so heart-wrenching. I think I cried more times reading this book than I did reading The Fault in Our Stars! I'm not sure which book I like better, TFiOS or this one! The one thing I didn't like about this book was the ending.

Everyone would love this book. I picked it up thinking it was going to be a bad book about war in the 1940s but I ended up loving it! (:

don’t read this expecting it to be like salt to the sea so you don’t get too disappointed, it’s actually a great book but you need to start it without expectations or comparisons with her other work

This story is so sad. It is amazing to me, the lengths people go to just to survive. The human spirit is astounding and I hope to be that strong in life.

I think I’m going to think about this book for a while since reading it. Even though there was some horrible stuff happening in the book I enjoyed the little glimpses of Andrius and Lina, and the love her family had for one another.
