Man! Kenneth Oppel is a genius! I was so touched by story of a young boy longing for an adventure, then realizing that he was in over his head and had much more than he had bargained for. This story emulsifies emotion and fantasy, bringing real lessons, a message of depth and a sublime sense of wonder and mystery! This is a top of the list book, a stupendous read of real fibre and spunk.

This was quite the ride! Normally books that take me this long to read end up rating kind of low because I only finished them for the sake of checking it off the list. But this book, though it took a little over a month, is inches from a five star rating. It was just so fabulous!
I ticked a star off for some language (there wasn’t much, but this is a middle grade) and the writing. Towards the end, it got really chaotic with so much going on, and some of the things that took place didn’t feel satisfying because they happened too quickly/didn’t get the proper attention they deserved. All things considered though, it was still a fabulous ending. The author had a lot of lose ends to tie up, and he did so well. I just think it could have been polished a bit.
The pages came to life, and it had just about everything anyone could ask for. Action, adventure, intrigue. A daring trapeze artist, a stunningly artist boy, mountain chases and wild creatures in an alternate, mysterious America. It was vibrant and fantastic, and I highly recommend it!

I would have loved this when I was 13 but as an adult I just couldn't get into it. The plot was great but every time I put it down I had to force myself to pick it up again.
This review is for the audiobook edition.
I'm going to be completely honest here: I have no idea what happened in this book. There was a kid and a train and a Sasquatch tooth. I think. I'm not even sure really what genre it would fall under.
I don't know if the failure was mine or the choice to listen to this book as opposed to read it. No clue.

Excellent, steampunky, train-based adventure in an alternate wild West where the Sasquatch run free. Will is working on finding his own adventures and deciding who he will become -- the ambitious clerk his father hopes for, or the artist his heart desires. In the meantime, giant trains, circus folk, a crazy funeral car treasure heist and adventure abounds. I'm glad to have a Kenneth Oppel title to recommend to those readers a little young for the Airborn series.
