Listened to The Beach House on audio and enjoyed the narrator. The setting in Nantucket was good, and the setup of all the different characters in the beginning for an exciting story. However did not happen.

From the drama of (a widow which needs to supplement her income by renting out her house in the summer as a bed and breakfast with a husband who committed suicide or appeared so), a divorced couple with a brat teenage daughter which I wanted to choke with her two year old temper tantrums, to the couple with the gay husband who is in the closet and the owner’s son with the affair with a married woman he does not like. Everyone is all over the board with emotions.

I enjoy Jane Green; however, this was not her best. Looking forward to her newer books.

Meh. It seemed to want to be a Maeve Binchy-style story, but I never found the characters to be interesting or quirky enough to care about them.

Easy summer read that had a few surprises. Interesting characters that I enjoyed. I read this in two days. Mindless fun getting me through being so very pregnant!

This book was a really light beach read. If you're looking for mindless reading I would recommend it, but I would recommend an earlier Jane Green novel before this one

A quick, predictable chick-lit but without the "literature" ... And oh dear. 65 year old Nan written as though she's 85 ... glad it's over and everyone is happy!

Don't get me wrong, I've been a fan of Jane Green's since Jemima J, but this story just didn't do it for me. I've been reading more romance than Woman's Lit or Chick Lit recently so I guess I was let down by the lack of romance in this story. I felt that the really only romance story, the main character seemed to move almost too quick between the woman he loved. It was almost halfway thru the story before everyone actually converged on the beach house, where the story was supposed to be based. I also felt there was a little too much infidelity and heart break and I didn’t feel there was enough happy endings for me. I know this doesn’t seem like a good review, but I still love Jane Green and will continue to read her. There was some great parts and overall enjoyable read but I guess just different from what I’ve been reading recently.

Alright, I loved this book. It is completely predictable, the characters are true to set types, and the setting is all too perfect. But it is the perfect little summer reading confection.
