Super enjoyable listen, Tom Patrick Stephens does a fantastic job reading. I always enjoyed Bears type of personality: a super positive, adventurous soul who is willing to take some risks, yet who also seems to thoroughly enjoy life and family. Worth the listen! On a side note, his voice is enthusiastically intense, so my hubby just added to the fun while I was listening to the early Everest parts. Entertainment at it's finest :D
This was a fascinating book. After watching Grylls sleep in a camel and drink his own pee it was really interesting to see into the life of a man who lives his life on the edge. This book tells mainly of his childhood and experience on climbing Everest. A book definetely worth a read!
This book was truly inspiring and way more fascinating than what I had expected. Although Bear describes his early life (well, actually, he even starts way before that) whilst I wanted to read a bit more about his TV work (on which he touched in a few chapters, but not as broadly as I would have liked) I actually really enjoyed his crazy stories from his youth. How he kicked a mass murderer in the balls made me chuckle. The SAS selection seemed absolutely brutal. The recovery from a broken back in 3 places sounded like a nightmare, but the absolute peak (pun intended) was his story of reaching Mount Everest. That was truly breathtaking read. Everyone should pick up this book just because of this story. I knew a little about Everest, but as it turned out, I knew even less. It is a motivating and inspiring tale of extraordinary people doing extraordinary things. With death lurking around every corner.
I had no idea Bear is such a talented storyteller. To spread just some of his adventures across 400 pages and keep the reader entertained is incredible. And there is a plethora of things he didn't even touch upon. The things I would certainly like to read about, too.

An interesting book. A good insight into the life of one of the inspirational characters for millions of people (scouts and others). I found the style and pace of the book great and if it hadn't been for the need to go to bed so I was able to get up for work the next day I could have easily read on through the night. It is one of the few books that I have read recently that I can say this for. The chapters are short, but over 100 of them. This is fine as it lets you take a break and think before continuing, if you want to reflect on the message or feeling of the chapter.
Bear Grylls truly is inspirational. His childhood seems from the outside privileged, but obviously had a profound effect on him. His life after school also is impressive. The accounts of his army career, his accident and his Everest climb make you feel every step and ounce of effort. It is great story telling.
Bear also give an insight into the origins of his personal Christian faith. I respect this, as it is done in a personal way and not thrust at you.
I hope we see a 'sequel' covering a bit more detail and behind the scenes from his current work as I am sure that the back stories will be fascinating..

Great read. Bear Grylls is remarkable character and has an inspiring story about ordinary people achieving extraordinary challenges.
The beginning when he discusses his family history is a little dry, but the SAS selection and climbing Everest (which is a large portion of the book) were exceptional. Not the best, but a very good read. The attitude he carries through all his endeavors is something I am envious of.

Interesting but it's veeeeery repetitive. I think maybe it's aimed at audiences who might not usually be that much into reading perhaps.
