The Blueprint is a fantastic debut, set in an alternate timeline/dystopian that doesn’t feel too far away from reality. The authors writing is provocative and unsettling, and this book has no easy answers. Rashad also does not shy away from showing Solenne’s childlike qualities, something many dystopian novels fail to do, which I appreciated. Although I wish the world building was stronger, this book is hauntingly realistic and an overall great read.

As this is something very much out of my typical, I'm glad that I listened through it. The mix of timelines and plethora of characters that at times were not exactly identifiable from each other were the biggest challenges with this read for me. The material is expectedly dark and the outcome is always sad and makes you mad. I'm glad that I finished it, but I'm also glad to be done with it because this one was heavy AF 😪
