The premise and ultimate story and ending of this book was what made it pretty good. What didn’t land for me was the writing style and lack of world building. I felt consistently confused about holes - how did we get to where we did in this dystopian world? It kept nagging at me as I tried to enjoy where the plot was going.

Overall the story is great. You can really feel the historical inspiration for what the book was trying to tell and do. I just wish I had a bit more substance.
