This book sucked. Like, so bad. Painfully bad. Oh-my-god-kill-me-now bad.

I might try to read this at another time but it's moving too slow for me.

I would give this book five stars but, it was riddled with typos! Couldn’t believe it. With that being said, the story was fabulous so I’m moving onto the second installment in the series with my fingers crossed the editing gets stronger.

I WANTED to like this book. I had been a follower of the author on Tik Tok for a while. Unfortunately, I didn’t do a deep dive into social media feedback until after purchasing the book, for fear of spoilers, but I do regret that decision as it’s apparent I’m not the only one who took issue with certain things.

Making the “pure white” girl the perfect, goddess-delivered one who needs to be protected made me so uncomfortable. On top of that, the POC character literally gets whipped FOR the white skinned girl in order to keep her safe and hidden. These are things that 100% could have been avoided or changed.

Then, the dark fae. We as a society need to make a change when it comes to using “darkness” to represent evil. It made me wholly uncomfortable how Amaris kept referring to the dark fae as demons, even after finding out that they weren’t ACTUALLY demons and that the term is offensive to them.

Onto the actual writing… there were a lot of errors regardless of it having been self published first, and picked up by a publisher later. They had every chance to fix grammatical errors and continuity errors, and they did not. On top of this, there was a ton of repetition in the descriptions, such as smells and appearances. I felt like I was continuously reading the same thing, but phrased in different ways.

Compliments? I liked the plot. It had serious potential. The world building was interesting and definitely drew me in. I enjoyed the side characters a lot and felt they were well built. I originally picked it up due to it being marketed as a “bisexual fantasy”, and I did enjoy that aspect of it.

this book was so unbearably slow. and it has too many words like at least a hundred pages worth too many.
and it fucking ends with nox and amaris separated AGAIN. like they were together maybe two chapters at the end before they were separated? wtf.
probably not gonna read the other three books tbd
