I loved it, really good take on Sirens, and the mythological aspect of them was real close to the Greek one. Can't wait to get my hands on Lullaby, Amanda Hocking never disappoints. But the Trylle trilogy is still my favorite.

Another book to add to the "i have no memory of this book" so it's hard to give an accurate ratimg. These are the two things i remember 1. one of the chracters having my name 2. three girls turning into birds?? And when i finished this book i was left with a lot of confsuion of what i just read. But, fun times.

Like all of the other books I've read by Amanda Hocking, this one was a really quick read. I think I finished it in only a couple hours total reading time. I enjoyed her vampire series, her take on the seven deadly sins and seven virtues, and her troll/changeling trilogy. The Watersong series moves on to Sirens and I felt drawn into the book rather quickly. Sometimes the dialogue felt awkward, but that was because of the characters, not the writing, so in the end it was actually amusing. For example, Daniel tells Harper that the coffee is good and she replies, "It's Folgers." It totally sounded like something overly responsible Harper would say, not quite realizing that Daniel is there because he likes her. And many of the interactions between Harper and her younger sister Gemma really do feel like a typical sibling relationship. I'm looking forward to Lullaby, the second book in the quartet and I'm glad that I only have about another six weeks until it comes out.

Hmmm well it wasn't too bad, but it was pretty weird. like. I couldn't get really really into it and I felt like it went really fast. But I really want to read the next book when it comes out hehe

I have never been a huge fan of "mermaid" themed books. There are a few that I have found to enjoy, but not many. The only reason I ventured into this world again was the fact that it was written by Amanda Hocking. Everyone is raving about her writing and her amazing publishing deal she received awhile back. I figured there must be something to her writing if publishers were this excited about signing on a new writer.

I am still on the fence about this read. While I can see the allure of the authors writing, I am still not sold on the mermaid and sirens. All I can think about is a fin getting in the way while trying to hug someone. I know it seems childish, but my brain can't seem to compute this with romantic and alluring. This is just a personal peeve and not one that another reader should hold against a mermaid themed book. On that note, the story itself was entertaining, but not outstanding. Yes it held my interest and I was glad to have read this new read, but it is not one that blew the others in pile out of the water. (no pun intended) Also the climatic ending was pretty good and I give it points for keeping me interested enough to want to try the next book.

I can say that this author does have a unique writing style even if it did seem a little on the young side. I know this is an author with many books under her belt though, so I will try and read other stories by her before making a final decision on adding her to my auto-buy list.

A refreshing twist on the typical Mermaid's tale. While the story wasn't particularly eye opening, the writing was fantastic and the characters were well developed. 4/5 would read again.

I went into this book not knowing exactly what to expect. The title of the series, “Watersong,” gave me a clue, but I wasn’t sure what kind of supernatural creatures we’d be dealing with. The mystery was kind of unique, since a lot of books you know right away.

As I got closer to the big reveal about what Penn, Lexi, and Thea really were,
SpoilerI was worried we’d find out this was all about mermaids. I’ve read mermaid books. I don’t dislike them. And in a way that’s part of what they are, but up to that point everything was pointed toward sirens. Low and behold, she followed through! The mean, dangerous girls are Greek monsters who lure men to their deaths. She even went into the mythology a little, which I loved.

The plot was interesting enough to keep me reading, with the mystery of the three girls and then the conflict Gemma faced as she became one of them. The way the relationship between Gemma and her sister was disrupted by the change broke my heart. I love sister relationships in books.

When it comes to character, I liked Harper way more than Gemma. The younger sister felt a bit flat to me, as did her relationship with Alex (and honestly Alex didn’t have anything compelling about him at all). On the flip side, I really liked Harper and Daniel. Both of their characters are much better written, as is their relationship. Daniel is exactly one of the types of character I love: confident, laid-back, and charming. He’s not a jerk to Harper, but he’s annoyingly persistent.

This book left me with a kind of sub-plot cliff-hanger, and I’m eager to read the next book.
SpoilerDaniel is clearly immune to the siren song, but why? Penn alluded to the song not working on someone who is in love. Does that mean Daniel is in love with someone? With Harper? That seems a bit far-fetched, so I’m interested to see where the author goes with it.
This book is interesting and unique enough that I would recommend it to someone looking for a change from vampires and werewolves and other monsters. Not the best example of characterization, but it wasn’t bad enough that I stopped reading.

quick read. i liked it. about half way through, i thought i would probably not read the second one, but by the end of the book, i was ready to keep going. the relationships are well written and realistic. the plot is a little convoluted, albeit creative and new. still like her zombie series better. need to check out her vampire series next.
