King is 12 years old and has just lost his brother, has un friended Sandy for being gay, and is questioning his own sexuality. Sandy runs away and King helps him hide and the two rediscover a friendship. There is a lot of inner questioning but also a lot of talking about feelings and I wonder how true that is for 12 year olds. Ultimately, I think the narrator of the audio version hindered my enjoyment of this book.

This book touched my soul in a way most books don't. It left me beautifully broken. This is a book written for a much younger audience, however, I find that it has so much value for adults too.

The journey King takes is tragic, scary, emotional, uncertain & beautiful.  Everything in his path is relatable and feels so real.

This book will stay with me for a long long time.

I hate that there are children everyday dealing with what King and Sandy go through every single day, so glad there are books about it that can be part of the change!

Officially my first summer book - even though I have a few weeks of school left. This was a hard book to read, but so beautiful, heartrending, and layered. Ended in tears for me. A very powerful middle grade book!

I could not stop reading it. A near perfect book. Everyone should read it regardless of how old they are.
