Its a dark and gross telling of the struggles of a transwoman, with a flash bang of infestation and almost fever dream type description. I wasn't sure what this book what gonna be like starting it but  surprisingly it was pretty good. Shock factor plays a big role in my high rating.

this was absolutely without a doubt the most insane, disgusting book i’ve ever read, and i was enjoying it pretty much the whole time. i haven’t ventured much into body horror, but i found the gruesomeness sort of captivating, especially because the two main characters felt like real, flawed people. some of the social commentary felt heavy handed, but much of it was done gracefully and it really made me think about the future of transphobia and also about kink/fetish. cannot think of anyone id ever recommend this book to, but im DYING to talk about it with someone. i found the ending to be unsatisfying, and i wanted to know more about frankie and vanya and their (our?) fucked up world.

a horror novel about how bad it is to be a trans woman in britain sounds interesting & rumfitt has some really good ideas, but the book leaves a lot to be desired in terms of execution.  i was expecting something like clive barker, but it feels like he writes for love of the game (which is sex) while rumfitt is trying to shock you with the grossest porn shes seen on reddit.  its basically just blowfly girl, but 200 some pages long and written by someone who can only think in terms of twitter threads, whether theyre about dismal politics or asinine discourse thinkpieces.  this book did make me feel gross, but mostly bc it felt like a really bad multi-hour doomscroll.
