Reading this book was a rare treat. A book where every character felt complete, and the writer managed to perfectly balance the writing and stylistic elements against the plot, never letting one out shadow, or get in the away of the other.

I am very mixed on this one. There's nothing that I disliked really other than the ending where it just ... ended. I have heard such great things and I guess I just didn't like it as much as everyone else?? It was a decent book with decent characters and an ok - if very slow - plot. I am completely fine with very slow or even basically no plot if there's something like great character development going on instead but everything here was just ok. I just missed whatever made it great I guess because I really don't get why everyone loves this one so much unless it's because of the show, which I have not watched?? It's fine, read it or not.

A brilliantly written post apocalyptic novel. Imagine trying to survive when 99% of the population has been wiped out by the flu virus. The context is terrifying yet engaging, but the ending of the book did not feel cathartic in a way I hoped it would. Miranda was my favorite character because I loved her obsession with constructing her own graphic novel, Station Eleven, within this dystopian novel. The whole book, in a way, is a meditation on art...the worlds constructed through fiction, as well as the drive to construct worlds. Many key characters in the book are also part of a troupe of Shakespearean actors. Shakespeare wrote about universal human themes. This novel seems to suggest that our stories are constantly intersecting in ways that are both destructive and magical. To be alive is to participate in a game of survival. This isn’t a book that focuses on race or class. It is more a philosophical book, a performance of sorts, that comes across as an ode to the human condition.
