I adored this, previously I've only read the cheat sheet by sarah adams and I liked it but didn't love it; when in rome was a completely different story for me, I kept waiting for it to get boring or have a weird plot twist I didn't like but it stayed true to the characters and the story in the best way possible, one of my favorite reads this year

thank you, NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback

I didn’t intend to read this book, but I found it on vacation in the hotel library and couldn’t stop until I finished it.

A very wholesome love story between a Popstar and a Pie shop owner. Two worlds collide and that was, what I liked a lot. The mysterious side plot with the manager was even better then I thought.

Was a cute book. It just felt as though it could’ve been better like it was missing something

Opposites attract + celebrity romance + small town!

Amelia is burnt out. Weeks before a long tour, she takes off in the middle of the night to a small town in Kentucky.

When Noah finds Amelia & her car broken down in his front yard, he makes it very clear he wants nothing to do with her or her problems. But he offers her his guest room to stay in until her car is fixed.

As Amelia starts to come out of her shell, trusting herself again, Noah begins to see a side of her no one else gets to see. She’s kind & playful & lonely. And Noah can’t help but want to be her friend.

Noah Walker can have my whole heart! 🫶🏼 I freaking love this book so much!

This book is the definition of swoon. The nicknames, the way they like each other but are trying not to, the way they feel about each other when they finally admit it. 🫠🫠

I love the small town of Rome so much. Noah’s sisters are just perfection & the way they fold Amelia right in is just wonderful. I love all of the meddling and the way everyone knows everyone’s business, and the easy way they endlessly tease Noah.

The grumpy & sunshine mixed with opposites attract mixed with forced proximity is just chef’s kiss perfection.

And storm scene is top notch, one of my all-time favorite scenes. IYKYK.

I kept seeing rave reviews of When in Rome  by many people I follow on various platforms.  Upon reading it for myself, there were certain aspects that I liked, but for the most part, it just fell short. I found Amelia to be obnoxious, especially when she was being “playful” and trying to get a reaction from green eyed Noah (I will never forget his eye color because it gets repeated many times).  Her style of teasing annoyed the heck out of me.  Amelia never stopped talking or seeking attention, and a tad selfish.
1-  she was so determined to stay in a city called Rome that she just didn’t care that that  “there weren’t any rooms available”at the only B&B/hotel. With all her funds she could’ve rented a car or stayed at the nearest hotel.  Oh no. She had to stay with a man she only knew for a day even though he was clearly uncomfortable.
2-Speaking of funds, she couldn’t afford to buy a sweatshirt or warmer clothes?
3- Amelia could pop open a tube of biscuits, but couldn’t buy a box of Hungry Jack pancakes that included directions. Oh no! It was funny to keep trying to burn Noah’s house down.
4- “the celebrity who just wants to be treated normally” arrives and expects others to pause and just to show her a good time!

I also felt like I had to let go of probability in order to accept the forced proximity trope (not my particular thing, by the way).

1-The mechanic couldn’t get a part for TWO WEEKS?! In the 21st century?  Couldn’t find the part online or from a supplier somewhere- anywhere, in the country?
2- the living situation. See #1 in previous spoiler. It’s not rude to ask a random person to stay elsewhere, especially when Mabel was obviously full of crap.

There was  a lot of cussing, especially with Noah’s pov. It didn’t really seem necessary and felt out of place. I also started to skim a bit when I got about half way through this book, because I felt like it was just reading the same type of cringy  “playful” banter.

What did I like?
1-  The Audrey Hepburn references! I adore Audrey.
2- James and Annie. They were the only characters that seemed to have it together.
So despite my rating for When in Rome , I believe that I will give Annie’s book Practice Makes Perfect a go!
