My first encounter with the Fairyland series. Mallow is my favorite protagonist, unique among fairy-tale heroines in a way that September isn't, with her hinted-at past and lack of whimsy. A little darker in tone than the Fairyland books proper, and it glosses over the climactic action, but as well-paced and beautifully written as a full Fairyland novel. I recommend reading this before THE GIRL WHO CIRCUMNAVIGATED FAIRYLAND IN A SHIP OF HER OWN MAKING, so as to fully understand Mallow as a character before her introduction.
Graphic: Body horror
Moderate: Violence, Cannibalism, Blood, and Murder
Minor: War, Genocide, and Alcohol

There is nothing I can say about the content warnings without spoiling this book as most of the more graphic parts happen within the climax. so spoilers...
