BOOK REVIEW

The French Agent / Belinda Alexandra
Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“sometimes, as much as you want something or as much as everyone else thinks it’s the right thing, it’s not on the cards. it’s simply not meant to be”

set in the 1940’s, we follow the post-war lives of two very different women and how one mystery connects them.

wow, this one was definitely a page-turner, and had me guessing the whole way through how it was going to end. I loved the dual POV’s between Diana and Sabine, seeing how different their lives were purely based on location.

I really enjoyed slowly uncovering things throughout the book, it definitely kept me intrigued to find out who was really behind the betrayal of the Resistance circuit. I definitely was not expecting the twists in this one and the ending really threw me.

reading about Sydney at such a different time felt like such a surreal experience for me, knowing all the locations that are mentioned and knowing how they look now. I loved the themes of nature and the ideas that Diana had to create living areas based on the bush land already present, it really got me thinking about how different Sydney could’ve been, with different people involved in infrastructure.

I definitely recommend this one to fans of the historical fiction genre! The level of research Belinda does for her novels is so high, and you can really tell in the depiction of the characters, places and eras that she writes.
