See now this book isn't TOTALLY bad. The plot was very refreshing, it wasn't one of those this is a war, we made some people to help us and then they win. This had to do with the after math of the entire war. It was very interesting premise.

But some of the things really confused me. Some of the characters sometimes made no sense. It felt like they would say something about this one character, and then add something completely out of the blue. For example after the war they never explain the character relations very well. I was very confused the entire time, and still kind of am.

But I do somewhat recommend this book as mainly just a good violent book and something to hold you off for awhile.

At times brilliant, and at others...not so much. The overall story is interesting, as is the concept of
Spoiler"how do you trust a mind-reading enemy now friend"
.

I'm not sure why I'm rating this only 3 stars, but my working theory is that it's a lot of little things (uneven writing quality, insightful ideas followed by childish scenes/characters, etc).

A fascinating story. Earth is being invaded by these starfish like alien creatures that can read anybody's mind. In desperation, the humans decide to engineer giant beings that resemble the Easter Island statue, with the exception that the aliens cannot read their minds. These defenders, as the giant beings are known as, do indeed manage to save the earth from the invasion. If only this is where the story ends. Well, after the war, the defenders demand that they get Australia. A few years after, the defenders demand more. You'll need to read the book to find out what happens next. I'll only say this, the enemy of my enemy is my friend!

A fair alien invasion story, complete with victory, defeat, and more. I wish there was more backstory for the starfish, but all in all a fun read.

What happens when telepathic aliens invade the Earth and can predict your every move before you make it? You genetically engineer super soldiers resistant to telepathy to fight them. What happens when the war is over? Do you give vocational training to your super soldiers who literally know nothing but war? Neat thought experiment about the levels to which you may not want to go to win.
