I mean, does this book even need a review? It’s the grand-daddy of all adventure books for kids, and THE genus of most modern pirate stories. Everybody should read it once, it’s delightful.

This is a fine read to see where pirate stories really came from. The wording and tone make it feel slower than a modern book of same plot. There is not much charecter development of any kind, and you can see how this spawned several clichés.

THE pirate adventure tale of pirate adventure tales.

Robert Louis Stevenson was a brilliant storyteller: an artist who painted vivid pictures with clever words and crafted characters you love to hate and hate to love.
Many "classics" don't measure up to the hype (in my humble opinion), but that is not the case with Stevenson's writings.
Treasure Island truly is a masterpiece of fiction.

Epic. Fast-paced. Adventurous. A swash-buckling tale for the ages.

Fun classic adventure story, I hadn't realized how much pirate lore was generated in this book. I honestly only picked this up because I wanted to read a retelling, and thought I should read the original first. There's some very good writing as well as some truly excellent imagery, but I wasn't particularly drawn to the story. Howeve , the narration was five stars. Alfred Molina did an absolutely fantastic job.
