I thought the first book was awesome. The second is also amazing. I love Ada and even though she can be prickly, I admire her courage and spirit.

Not as good as the first book, or rather it took me a while to get into it. The middle, with the developing friendship with the German! Jewish girl who comes to live with them was again very well written. Sequels are rarely as good as the first and that's true here but it was still wonderful to spend time with Ada.

I was so excited to get my hands on this after devouring the first book! I teach 5th grade and I like reading books I have out in the classroom library so I can suggest them to my students from a knowledgeable perspective. This was a quick read - mostly because I refused to put it down. The story follows Ada after book 1 during WW2 with lots of interesting twists and turns. A great piece of historial fiction that teaches the importance of compassion and compares how two very different characters were impacted by the war & Hitler. I felt very connected to the characters and teared up a few times throughout the book. A great read!

Oh so very good. I absolutely love these books, and I sure hope this isn't the last we'll hear from Ada, Jamie, and Susan

ahhh. loved this sequel. this is such a beautiful story of learning how to forgive those who have hurt you in the past and learning to be brave.

I very rarely give a book AND its sequel 5 stars, but I did with this pair! The thing that did it for me was the amazing character development, and the oh-so-real emotions that the characters portrayed. The storytelling was masterful.
C.S. Lewis so eloquently said “No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally – and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.” This sentiment rings true with this set of novels.
Do yourself a favor, and read "The War That Saved My Life," and its sequel, "The War I Finally Won," by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley.
