Heartbreaking, but wonderful. Although there is much more war and death in this book, I personally found it less traumatic than the first one - mostly because the abusive mother is no longer there - such a relief!
But the war is there and it is devastating to read about it, even when seen from afar, as in this book.

I personally loved when Susan got better but it was very sad when John died of an air raid and when Susan got

Read the first novel, The War That Saved My Life, before reading The War I Finally Won.

I read this book immediately after finishing TWTSML and read it in about 24 hours. Easy read, good story.

The War I Finally Won is just as wonderful as (if not better than) the first book in this short series. KBB's writing is so pitch-perfect here! Ada's narrative voice is extremely engaging, funny, and distinctive, and the way she describes her world and the things she's learning about herself is wholly absorbing. There is a simplicity and quietness to this story that makes it so special. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if The War I Finally Won was also nominated for the Newbery in 2018.

On audio. I really liked these two books.
