Beautiful, beautiful book. I just want two more volumes to this story. Maybe a whole TV show.

Personally sometimes I think you just need to read a WWII book and cry, and this is a FANTASTIC one to do that with. Also. Found families.

Wonderful Sequel

I'm still amazed these are written for children. There is so much that happens and so many themes and topics touched on. I need more!

This book closed out the series really well. I think in middle grade books it can be hard to really show what war is like and this book does a great job of showing the difficulty of war. I loved how Ruth played such a big part in the book and i found it funny how Lady thornton reacted to some things.

DNF :/

Still an excellent book, still a series I wish I hadn’t started. It continues to be an excellent depiction of trauma, child abuse, and the recovery therefrom, but WOW is it hard to read. It’s also a very moving, intense series about motherhood in all its forms, and how mothers and children interact. This book has fewer Standard Children’s Fiction Plot Points, which I appreciated, but still does not quite stick the landing at the end.

All in all, well worth a read, as long as you can handle child abuse, trauma, death, and sadness. (There are some happy moments, too.)

FEEEEEEELLLLLLLLINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGSS. I was convinced this book couldn’t possibly be as good as the first one but I was wrong. It’s so good and I love them all so much and they’re trying so hard to learn how to be kind and decent humans to each other. And then the flipping ENDING!!!! I am not okay.
