I was concerned about starting this book when I did. A student at the school where I teach chose to take his life and I thought my timing might have too big of an impact. However, I feel like I read an accurate portrayal of all the multiple emotions felt by those left behind and the one who chose to leave. I have several students who knew it was in my queue and are now reading it for themselves. One has suggested that it is helping. I can only hope.

I laughed, I cried and I cringed. This book broke my heart and put it back together again, and I am thankful for it.
Caitlin's grief and Ingrid's journal entries leading up to her suicide were so well written.
Being someone whose felt depression and wanted to die and someone whose been left behind by someone whose been successful, I can tell you how spot on Nina LaCour has written both sides.
This book is perfect in so many ways... I can not recommend it enough.

Book 8 for my NEWTsReadathon2019 challenge. This satisfies my Exceeds Expectations level in Muggle Studies for being set in our real world.

Woof. So I've had this book on my to-read list for a long time (2012, oh my god). When I decided to request it from the library, I didn't remember what it was about at all. Well, it's about Caitlin and her recovery after her best friend, Ingrid, committed suicide. LaCour handled the subject matter and wrote teenagers very well. And there's LGBTQ rep! Powerful stuff and I cried a bunch of times aboard a train through Germany (uhh sorry other passengers).

Heart breaking and beautiful. A stunning character study of grief and mourning.
