There is just something magical about Santat's illustrations that make any story come to life! Absolutely loved the message behind this story of communication not always being something that needs to be done with words.

This book tells the story of a grandfather and grandson who have a limited relationship due to language barriers. I really liked this book and feel like it was fitting that there were limited words and the illustrations did a lot of the storytelling. I also liked that it included two languages, I feel like if a student saw their home language in a book it would make them feel seen and represented in the class.

Holy wow...Stunning...in both story & illustrations. This is a must-read/must-share picture book about family, communication, bravery, and love. Preorder it now - I'll already call it as one of the best picture books of 2018. I can't wait to share it with kids.

Such a beautiful story! I loved the connection between the grandfather and the little boy. I also loved that this was not a word-heavy text. I could see it being a huge draw for reluctant readers. I would highly recommend this book.
