The OG workplace romance novel! Rochester, the OG Grump!
Other than the fact that this novel portrays mental illness as the devil itself, Jane was literally 18... How old was Rochester? Hmm... Are we collectively skating by that because it was the "norm" in 1847.... Ick.
"I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being, with an independent will; which I now exert to leave you."
From a young age, Jane Eyre was a dramatic, sassy, and intelligent individual. She knew what she wanted, and was always able to recognize how unjust her life was. The internal workings of Jane's mind was pure feminine rage, and I loved every minute of it!
Rochester on the other hand, he was indecisive. Is he attracted to Jane or is he not?
In my opinion, he saw a strong, independent woman. His equal. He's attracted to her, and develops love for her, but he doesn't express it well enough. Lines of communication become blurry and the attention and affection he gives her are not on the level she wanted, or deserved. He's overwhelming!!
“I do not think, sir, you have any right to command me, merely because you are older than I, or because you have seen more of the world than I have; your claim to superiority depends on the use you have made of your time and experience.”
Quite long-winded with periods where I was bored to tears, but overall, I had a good time reading this!
Drama Queen quotes that made me laugh:
“If others do not love me, I would rather die than live- I cannot bear to be solitary and hated."
“To my mind, a man is nothing without a spice of the devil in him.”

Jane Eyre SCARES ME!!! And I hate classics, ugh. Don’t come for me. I just don’t have the brian power to decipher every fucking sentence. But I’m giving her a try…

Yes I finally finished it! 3.5⭐️ Her female characters were believable as to her male characters they are overly dramatic. Otherwise it is enjoyable, the story is written well, and vocabulary is excellent and the morals of Jane are commendable!
