A good romp around and around and around the world with the author, a refugee from a cushy life as a corporate wife. Highly recommended for women who love to travel alone, without fear.

Julie recommended this book to me, and it's amazing. The true life adventures of a woman who did, indeed, sell everything to live with cultures around the world. I'm only a third into it, and only on her third country, but it is truly inspiring.
Maybe not a book for everyone but for me, it was just what I needed at this time in my life. Rita Golden Gelman is a kindred spirit, lucky enough to live the life I dream of. She shares my love of travel and my love of different cultures and languages, avoiding the tourist traps by immersing herself in the communities she comes in contact with. If these are things you love as well, then definitely read this book. It made my soul happy at a time when my travels have been limited by Covid-19.
Favorite line from the book ... “My spirit gets nourished in faraway places. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a biological need, perhaps a biological flaw, that compels me to seek the excitement and challenge that comes of being in a place where nobody knows me. “

I'm not sure the term "nomad" really suits the description of Gelman's life as she spends close to 8 years living in one place. However, I think her outlook on life is inspirational - you *can* change the way you live even after you turn 40. You *can* pick up and travel even as a single woman. Also, I think there's a lot of material here for discussion about what it means to be part of a community, how we define "family", and what it's like to be an outsider or foreigner living in a new place.
i really enjoyed the stories in this book. The author has some amazing experiences and adventures around the world. I was able to live vicariously through the stories, i'm always intrigued by this lifestyle, however, after reading the book, I'm very happy with my home and also very happy to travel for pleasure, but always with my home to return to.
Still, an amazing book!
