Not my favorite read aloud. Loads of build up, just for zero pay off in the end. Not that I need a total explanation or an ending, but the last half of the book was fairly unsatisfying, both for me and my students.

I listened to the audiobook version and I am book talking this to a 5th grade class.  The narrator was perfect for this story and he definitely made the shenanigans really funny.  I personally felt like not a lot happened in the story, but I wonder if that is because I’m an adult and this is meant for younger readers.  I think the premise is really funny, this kid who thinks doing all his laundry at once is better than just keeping up with it.  This book leaves on a cliffhanger so we don’t learn
why everyone seemingly disappears after the power goes out or why their friend got “stuck” in her video game
.  Normally I’m okay with a lack of closure but I think this book needed it.  I don’t think I’ll continue this series since I only read it for my class and I’m not eager to figure out what’s going on.  I really liked the ADHD representation and how Eddie casually talks about it, though.

Eddie describes the worst day of his life, which happens to turn into the funnest day of his life…as it seems.  I love how the writer truly writes in Eddie’s voice, his ADHD ramblings voice, middle school shenanigans voice, and the still grieving his dad’s death but mom  has moved on voice.

I listened to the audiobook, and I give the narrator five stars! If you listen to audiobooks with your middle grade kids, this is such a good one to listen to because the author breaks the fourth wall, which is really fun to listen to. I do normally hate a book the end on a cliffhanger… but I’ll forgive this one. I do wish Eddie had teamed up with his friends earlier in the book, their adventures were my favorite parts.

Justin is DEFINITELY in his middle grade book bag???? This book was so funny and entertaining and I’m happy to read the next book of Eddie and the gang’s adventure.

This was a funny and silly ride of a book. I would compare the comedy level to that of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The plot overall didn't feel like much happened, however, I think the goofy nature of the story made it worth the read and fun to follow along with.
