I've been making more of an effort to read non-fiction in the past year and this was one of the better ones!
Sometimes my problem with nonfiction is when things get tooooo real. The Glass Castle was an interesting and at times unbelievable life story- but that means it could also be unbelievable sad. The notion that people would raise their kids in this way, or rather not raise them in a lot of instances. The novel begins with a story of Jeannette's earliest memory, catching herself on fire while trying to boil hot dogs to eat. What three year old is using a stove, let alone unsupervised. This is the tip of the iceberg. Against all odds, this story, her story, has a relatively happy ending, but at what cost?
It was a powerful book, but I'm ready to go back into my fantasy worlds now.

Jeannette will take you through the emotional rollercoaster that was her childhood and want you jumping back in line to ride it all over again once you've finished the last page.

I think I would’ve rated this lower if her parents hadn’t been so charming, even with all the turbulence in their lives. This book is the third memoir where the writer went to Barnard. Makes me proud to be a seven Sister alongside them.

this book was a ROLLERCOASTER. i honestly hated it until the very end, not because the writing was bad, i loved the writing, but just because the story just kept on getting worse and worse until the last 70 pages or so when I finally enjoyed reading it. Honestly even tho it was such an emotional read, i think everyone should give it it a try

Less a coming-of-age story and more a diary about growing up in poverty.   These kind of stories are not my jam and I should probably stop reading them.
