I totally immersed myself in this story. It was brimming with fairytale vibes and there’s nothing better than listening to a fairytale book and reliving those childhood moments of wonder. I’m sure all book readers are aware of that special magic that comes from having a book read to you and that soothing energy that comes with it, even if it’s a scary story.

The bones of this story are really good, but i feel like there’s a definite pacing issue. For the first 2/3 of the book, you’re really just trying to figure out WHAT the actual mystery is, and when mysteries were finally brought up they were typically solved within a couple of pages so you were again wondering what the heck you’re even trying to solve or where it’s going. The last third or so of the book was interesting. It’s definitely a gothic fairytale and people who love that kind of moody writing will likely enjoy this.

Not for me, the concept seemed interesting, but the book was a bit all over the place and I didn't feel invested in the characters or their relationships. A lot of things got introduced and were either solved extremely quickly
e.g. the father of the main character, who immediately got killed and didn't have any other impact on the story
or were simply irrelevant
e.g. Eli being a werewolf
. I would have preferred it if the book went more into the motivations and emotions of the main character, she is in a lot of difficult and emotionally impactful situations, but I never really felt an emotional reaction, were told she's impacted sometimes, but for me at least it did not hit.
