This book is awesome. Political intrigue, action, betrayal, espionage, romance, this book has it all. It's writing style is smooth and flows from the page, and the characters are interesting and multi-dimensional. Great way to set up what I'm sure will be an awesome series. Loved the book, and can't wait to read the next one!

So I went to the library for the first time in forever to borrow a book I needed for uni, needless to say, I walked out with an extra three. One of those three, was A Dance of Cloaks by David Dalglish. At first, I was all hell yeah a story about a badass assassin. But as the story went on, I was kind of disappointed.

First of all, the so-called badass assassin was actually a thirteen year old boy – he had some mad skills, but I just think he needed to be older, like seventeen or something. The reader isn’t going to fall in love or have the hots for a thirteen year old kid. That was downfall number one. Downfall number two: this badass assassin changed his ways and converted to being a religious little shit who was all “I don’t want to follow in my father’s footsteps, I don’t want to be a badass assassin, I want to pray”. Downfall number three: he didn’t have a badass name, which is okay I guess seeing as this thirteen year old kid wasn’t actually a badass (Aaron is not a cool name).

If his dad was younger, I’d enjoy the story a lot more because he is the fucking badass and I wish the story stayed with badass assassins. Don’t get me wrong, the story had some good elements, it just wasn’t to my style. Like, I actually liked the idea of the thief guilds – again, I wish the badass assassins had a badass guild name to go with it (Spider isn’t very cool; pick a more badass animal please).

It sounded promising on the blurb I guess, but unfortunately, I was kind of disappointed in how it turned out. The writing was pretty good though, there were some good descriptions going on there, especially during the fighting and combat scenes where people died.

I don’t think I will continue this series – sorry y’all.

Sort of a DNF? I skimmed and got parts of the story but I did reach the end. I hope I get a cookie.

I didn't enjoy reading this, everything is a mess. But it isn't the *worst* book in the world, hence, 2 stars.

DNF'd because it didn't feel like my kind of story. I hardly read male protagonists anymore, and the constant jumping around to POVs of people I didn't know enough to care about kept throwing me out of the story. I guess I'm spoiled with all the dual POV YA novels out there that keep the focus really tight on the protagonist. I'm sure these books are great for the people who like them--they're just not for me.

I was looking forward to this book but i just couldn't get to grips with the author's style.

Found the characters to be very unlikable and a little unbelievable.

This was a fairly decent read. The political situation is interesting, and some of the characters are kind of unique. I liked it, but I didn't love it. It felt too...predictable, I guess, in some ways. Like I'd read it before years ago and fuzzily recounted it. It wasn't a waste of time, but I'm taking a break before reading the 2nd one.
