Its like a weird mash up of gossip girl, harry potter, twilight and a terry brooks book. Definitely a quick and light read. It has prospects to have substance but falls flat however as a "popcorn" book (light & fluffy but enjoyable despite the lack of nutritional benefit) the book is a fun afternoon.

Let's see. I liked the story, I like the twist at the end. I did get one of the villains right from mid book but the other one took me by surprise. So this is good.
I liked Rose and Lisa's friendship and how one cared for the other. Don't like the sulky heroine with no friends at all because it's almost unreal.
But, the descriptions of everyone annoyed me a bit. Boys are... "hot". And that's all. No effort on showing how they are hot. It needs a bit more of characterization.
Yes, I get it's told from a 17y.o. POV and girls do think about that. All the time. But this is literature and it is fantastic literature. We could stretch things a bit more and make the girl actually have something else in her head. She's a dhampir after all, she is trained to see things, so she should see boys past their hotness.

This book is awesome and I can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the series.

The day feminism died

"I knew I was pretty, but to Moroi boys, my body was more than just pretty: it was sexy in a risqué way."

"I knew perfectly well that there weren't a lot of girls at this school who looked as good in a bra as I did."
