More like a 3.5. Something was lacking but I'm not entirely sure what (maybe the key west relationship aspects?). Asher and Justin were incredible characters and I loved spending time with their ideas and thoughts of faith and the everything. This is a book I wish high school me could've read

The best part about Southernmost is its ability to tie setting and character together in truly beautiful ways. Anyone who has appreciated the ability of place to transform will appreciate this novel about a changing American South told through changing people. This book gives us a small glimpse of “the Everything.”

Longtime preacher Asher shares a sermon encouraging his congregation to rethink their exclusionary treatment of two gay men. In quick succession, he is forcibly removed from his church, his wife files for divorce, and he is restricted from seeing his son. Now, downhearted and aimless, he sets out for Key West in the hopes of reconnecting with a long-estranged family member whom he may have misjudged in the past.
